Emergency drill involving explosion will be held at Senari Port next week

KUCHING, Aug 16: The police is urging the public staying near or passing by the Senari Port to remain calm on August 21 to 23 as Independent Oil Terminal Sdn Bhd will be conducting a large scale emergency drill.

Kuching District Police Chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said there will be a major planned explosion at the site, where several agencies especially the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the police, the Royal Malaysian Army, and many more federal and state agencies would be involved.

“The large scale drill and exercise will also involve a mock rioting and evacuation of nearby residents,” he told reporters in a press conference this afternoon.”


Areas to be involved in the drill exercise are Kampung Senari, Goebilt, Sejingkat, Muara Tebas and Bako.

Awang Din added that roads affected by the exercise would be Jalan Demak, Jalan Senari, Jalan Bako and Jalan Keruing Bintawa to Sejingkat.

He thus advised road users on the day to abide by the instructions of the enforcement agencies manning road diversions or closures.

The drill is a collaboration between Independent Oil Terminal Sdn Bhd with National Safety Council and the Kuching District Police.

ACP Awang Din also advised the public who happened to be in the area when the exercise is being carried out to abide by the instructions and orders of the authorities and to remain calm.

He said the exercise is in compliance with the National Safety Council instruction No. 20 and 21 of the LPG Major Hazard Response 2019. — DayakDaily
