KUCHING, April 2: Kampung Baji in Sarikei and Sungai Rassau in Batang Igan, Matu will be placed under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) effective tomorrow until April 16.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) announced this in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak today.

The decision to enforce EMCO in the two areas came after a risk assessment by various agencies in these localities which saw a spike in Covid-19 cases in the past five days.

Meanwhile, Sarikei reported one case today which was linked to the Jalan Baji Cluster declared two days ago (March 31).

The Jalan Baji Cluster was identified in a housing area after a 16-year-old teenager tested positive for Covid-19 via symptomatic screening at Sarikei Health Clinic.

Initial investigations suggested that the boy could have been infected from the community and active case detection and contact tracing have detected 19 more cases.

Matu reported two new cases today detected from other types of screenings.

Sarikei is currently a Covod-19 orange zone with 32 local cases recorded in the last 14 days while Matu is a Covid-19 yellow zone with nine local cases reported in the past two week.
