KUCHING, March 24: New permanent secretary of the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government (MPHLG), Elizabeth Loh, is the first Chinese woman to hold such a position in Sarawak.

She is taking over the role from her retiring predecessor Datu Antonio Kahti Galis.

Loh was previously the deputy permanent secretary of MPHLG and former secretary of Padawan Municipal Council (MPP).

To commemorate such a milestone, Deputy Premier of Sarawak Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, congratulated Loh on his Facebook page today.

“Elizabeth is the first Chinese lady (appointed as) permanent secretary in Sarawak. (I am) looking forward to more Sarawakian ladies breaking the glass ceiling.

“She (Loh) is my third permanent secretary since I was appointed as a minister in 2016, (after) Datu Bakri Zaini (2016-2020) and Datu Antonio Kahti Galis (2020-2023),” he wrote.

Meanwhile, according to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, Loh received her appointment letter from Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here yesterday.

In the same ceremony, Abu Bakar also handed over an appointment letter to Sirai Daha, who will succeed Datu Edwin Abit as the new permanent secretary to the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (M-FICORD). — DayakDaily
