Elderly woman feared devoured by crocodile while gathering lokan in Sg Rayu

KUCHING, April 17: A 79-year-old woman is feared to have been attacked by a crocodile while searching for lokan (clams) in Sungai Rayu, Jalan Selang here today.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Petra Jaya Station initiated a search and rescue (SAR) operation, along with villagers, after responding to an emergency call at 1.55pm.


The elderly woman was reported to have ventured out with a relative to gather lokan in Sungai Rayu at 8am.

According to the relative, there are concerns that the victim might have been devoured by a crocodile, given that blood and footprints were found.

Despite conducting searches around the area where the attack is suspected to have occurred, the SAR team has yet to locate the woman as of 4pm.

The SAR operation will resume tomorrow. — DayakDaily
