KUCHING, Jan 10: An elderly single mother in Stampin has regained a safe and repaired home through RM15,000 in State-funded assistance under the Minor Rural Project–Sarawak Poor People’s House Improvement Programme (MRP-PPRMS).
Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said the repair works for Madam Bong’s house were carried out through a gotong-royong approach led by Kapitan Boon Voon Min and members of his village committee.
“This community-driven effort helped ensure that essential repairs were completed efficiently while fostering a strong sense of solidarity and mutual care among residents,” he said in a statement today.
He said MRP-PPRMS is a State initiative launched in 2018, which helps low-income (B40) families improve their homes by funding repairs and construction to ensure safe and decent living conditions.
Yap said the assistance reflects the State government’s commitment to protecting the welfare of vulnerable groups, particularly the elderly and single-parent families.
“A safe and stable home is fundamental to dignity, security and quality of life. Through MRP-PPRMS, we are able to address real needs on the ground and bring meaningful relief to families facing hardship,” he said.
He also expressed his appreciation to Boon and the village committee for their dedication and voluntary contribution.
Yap also emphasised that his service centre will continue working with community leaders to identify deserving families and ensure assistance is delivered efficiently, transparently, and with care. — DayakDaily
