KUCHING, Nov 16: An elderly man was killed after a midnight fire tore through a non-permanent house along Jalan Minah in Sarikei today.
According to a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 12.33am, and firefighters from the Sarikei station were deployed with additional support from the Bintangor station.
Upon arrival, it was noted that the fire had destroyed the house, along with a storage shed and two vehicles.
The house was occupied by six residents but only five were home as one was out of town. Of the five, four managed to escape, as the elderly male victim was believed to have been trapped inside the house during the incident.
The victim’s body was found in the bedroom area at 2.18am after firefighters extinguished the blaze and cleared the debris.
The remains were handed over to the police at 3.35am. — DayakDaily
