SIBU, Aug 2: An elderly man was killed after being struck by a broken tree branch while clearing a durian orchard in the Sungai Spau area, Jalan Stabau, here on Saturday (Aug 1).
According to a statement by Sibu police chief, ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, the 64-year-old victim was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe injuries to the head and shoulder.
He said the Lanang police station received information about the incident at 10.56am before a team led by Sergeant Dominic Michael Prentice rushed to the location.
Preliminary investigations found that the victim was clearing the orchard with his son when a tree branch suddenly broke and fell onto the victim.
He added that a medical officer from Sibu Hospital who attended the scene confirmed that the victim had died at the scene.
The victim’s body was later taken back to his home in Sungai Spau by family members for funeral arrangements. — DayakDaily
