At the time of the incident, the husband-and-wife hawker duo were busy preparing food at their stall as usual, while a female customer had just placed a takeaway order.

For reasons yet to be determined, the car suddenly veered into the coffeeshop and slammed directly into the char kway teow stall, sending shockwaves through the premises.

The impact injured the elderly couple operating the stall, while the female customer was also slightly affected in the collision.

Members of the public immediately rushed to help after the crash. The elderly driver was assisted out of the vehicle by nearby patrons, while others checked on the condition of the injured hawkers.

Emergency responders were alerted soon after, with the Civil Defence Force (APM) dispatching an ambulance to the scene. The female hawker, who complained of thigh pain, and her husband were subsequently taken to hospital for further treatment.

The female customer who had been waiting for her takeaway order did not require hospital treatment and did not accompany the ambulance to the emergency department.

The 60-year-old male victim was treated in the hospital’s green zone and later discharged after doctors confirmed he had not sustained serious injuries. His wife, however, suffered a fractured leg and remained in the yellow zone awaiting further treatment. — DayakDaily
