BETONG, July 16: An elderly couple who lost their way while driving from Mukah to Kuching ended up spending some seven hours at the roadside after their vehicle broke down at Jalan Tembawai Tinting , Ulu Layar, Betong.
According to Fire and Rescue department (Bomba) Betong, the man, 69, and his wife, 73, from Kampung Jawa, Batu 12 Kuching-Serian left Mukah and were on their way back to Kuching yesterday morning when they got lost.
At the same time, the vehicle they were traveling in broke down at about 11.30am.
Not knowing what to do, the couple just sat and waited in their car, hoping for passers-by to help them.
It was only at 7.05pm when Betong fire station received an emergency call from local councilor Cr. Tik Lakin who happened to be driving down that road.
Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, they found the woman in great pain and unable to move or walk because of her prosthetic legs.
They used a spinel board to lift her out of the car, after which she was immediately sent to Betong hospital by ambulance for further treatment.—DayakDaily
