SERIAN, June 20: After waiting for 13 years, elderly couple Goh Ah Miaw, 76 and Ng Siew Chin, 84 from Kpg Siburan will finally be able to live in a new house.
The family of five, including their three sons, have been living in a dilapidated house for years.
Built with a cost of RM82,000 under project mesra rakyat (PMR), the construction of the new house for the family will commence this month and will take an estimated 20 weeks for it to be completed.
Withessing the handing over of the project from State Development Office (SDO) to the contractor today was Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin.
According to him would, the project was approved three years ago, but was delayed due to the change of government and Covid-19 pandemic.
He thanked the Federal government under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development for the allocation which allows poor families to have a more decent home.
Willie also said that there were about 168 applicants under the federal allocation for the PMR to date, but could only approve about 10 units per year due to financial constraint.
Aside from that, Willie also thanked Sarawak government, which also allocated RM1 million to government MPs for house repair with a ceiling price of RM15,000 per unit.
“When we talk about house repair and building new ones, we cover all races and religions in Puncak Borneo because it is our obligation and initiative to assist the less fortunate in our society,” he pointed out.
