KUCHING, Feb 13: No victims were reported in an incident in which a corner of a shophouse unit block collapsed at Jalan Pahlawan in Sungai Merah today.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 2.46am, and personnel from the Sungai Merah station were deployed.
Upon conducting a size-up together with the police, authorities confirmed that the collapse involved an eight-unit block at No. 7A4, Jalan Pahlawan.
Search operations were immediately carried out to determine whether anyone was trapped in the rubble. Police also contacted each of the shop owners to verify that no individuals were inside the premises at the time of the collapse.
Surface searches conducted at the site found no victims involved in the incident.
The cause of the collapse and the extent of losses are currently under investigation. — DayakDaily
