Eight fined RM1,000 each for breaching RMCO guidelines

SIBU, Nov 21: Eight persons were fined RM1,000 each for breaching RMCO last night during an integrated operation.

Sibu district police chief, Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said a cafe owner at Jalan Wawasanwas caught for providing a thermal scanner which is malfunctioning and also a bottle with an empty hand sanitiser.

Six customers, four men and two women at another cafe on Jalan Sena were also caught for violating the SOP guideline by sitting at a table which is permitted for three persons only.

“A worker of the cafe was also compounded for not wearing a face mask,” he added.

The eight were caught by an integrated RMCO enforcement team which comprised of three senior police officers, 28 rank and file and 10 from other agencies which included Rela, army and Sibu Municipal Council.

The operation around the town from 6.30pm to 12 midnight was led by Sibu Crime Prevention and Community Policing Department chief, DSP Ariffin Bahar.

During the operation, a total of 16 summonses were also issued to motorists for various traffic offences.

“Two youths aged 15, were summoned for doing a dangerous stunt of Wheelie on Jalan Permai. Their machines were later seized by the team,” he added.

ACP Stanley said the other 14 summonses were issued to motorists for no driving license (4), no side mirror (2), expired road tax (1), modified exhaust pipe (1), no wearing motorcycle helmet (4).
