KUCHING, Sept 30: Daro will soon have a new school after the federal government approved an allocation of RM57 million for the construction of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Batang Lassa under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
According to TVS, Daro assemblyman, Safiee Ahmad, said the project will be fully implemented by the federal Public Works Department (JKR), as the cost exceeds RM50 million.
He said that the project involves relocating the existing school to a new, safer, and more comfortable site due to the threat of soil erosion at the current location.
“At present, the government is reviewing methods to provide temporary school buildings to ensure that teaching and learning sessions are not disrupted,” he said while presenting contributions to students in the Daro district who have been accepted into higher education institutions (IPT), on Monday (Sept 29).
Meanwhile, he said, the Sarawak government is also intensifying efforts to upgrade educational facilities through various state initiatives, despite schools being under the jurisdiction of the federal government.
“Among them are projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), including the construction of halls and improvements to basic infrastructure such as classrooms and other facilities.
“Efforts to repair dilapidated schools are also actively ongoing, with RM1 billion in contra funding allocated by the State government. In the Daro area, several schools such as SK Pantri, SK Ulu Daro, SK Nanga, and SK Penasu have been completed with the addition of new classroom blocks built using the Industrialised Building System (IBS).
“Additionally, SK Tebaang has been completed and is expected to be operational soon. Several other schools, including SK Campuran, are still under construction and showing positive progress,” he said.
Safiee added that the Sarawak government is also implementing a RM45 million community project for the new construction of SK Kampung Penasu, fully funded by the State.
“This project is currently underway under the supervision of JKR. Although there have been slight delays, efforts are being intensified to expedite its completion.
“Overall, the State government’s continuous efforts demonstrate its commitment to uplifting rural education. It not only provides a more conducive learning environment but also boosts motivation and academic performance among rural students, especially the children of Sarawak,” he said. — DayakDaily
