SIBU, March 19: Eatery operators have been told not to try to make huge profits to recover their capital but to adopt a ‘small profits but quick turnover’ business strategy.

This was said by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing at the Sibu Coffee Shop and Restaurant Owner Association 77th Anniversary Dinner last night (March 18), where his speech was read by Counsellor Ting Hua Sing of the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).

“You can’t always raise the prices of food and beverages in the face of the increase in the price of raw materials. I hereby urge you to control the price increase within a reasonable range. Don’t try to make huge profits to recover your capital quickly,” he said.

According to the Bintulu MP, using the ‘small profits but quick turnover’ business strategy will help them survive despite the increasing prices of ingredients.

Tiong also encouraged eatery operators to use digitalisation in their business operations, including online ordering and payment systems and making good use of networks and social media for publicity.

“I also want to remind eatery operators to abide by the regulations set by the council strictly. If you are encountering unsatisfactory and reluctant conditions, you should follow the formal pipeline to negotiate with the authorities,” he said. — DayakDaily
