KUCHING, Nov 8: Early detection is crucial in preventing diseases and ensuring the long-term well-being of the community.
Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap emphasised that maintaining health should not only be viewed as an individual responsibility but also as a shared social duty that strengthens the entire community.
“The theme ‘Love Yourself, Love the Community’ is very fitting because taking care of oneself is not merely an individual act, but a social responsibility. When every member of the community is healthy, the entire society becomes stronger, more productive, and harmonious,” he said when officiating the KOSPEN Community programme held at the Kota Sentosa Health Clinic today.
He commended the Kota Sentosa Health Clinic for taking the initiative to organise the programme in collaboration with the N12 Kota Sentosa Service Centre, describing it as meaningful in raising public awareness on the importance of maintaining personal and family health.
“In today’s modern world filled with stress and busy lifestyles, we often neglect basic aspects of health such as balanced nutrition, regular exercise, routine medical check-ups, and mental well-being,” he said.
Yap highlighted that preventive care and public health awareness must go hand-in-hand with government efforts to provide accessible healthcare services, adding that empowering citizens with knowledge enables them to take charge of their own health.
Quoting programme organising chairperson Dr Aizat Ruslin, Yap agreed that “early detection is very crucial”, stressing that regular health screenings and awareness programmes are key to reducing the risk of chronic diseases.
“As the elected representative for Kota Sentosa, I am committed to continuing my support for efforts to improve our community’s health through close cooperation between health agencies, NGOs, and local community groups,” he said.
He also urged residents to take the opportunity to undergo health screenings and adopt healthy lifestyles, reminding them that prevention is always better than cure.
Additionally, he called on community leaders, especially those appointed as advisory panel members, to actively listen to issues on the ground and serve as the bridge between the people and the government.
“In conclusion, I once again extend my congratulations and heartfelt thanks to the organisers, healthcare personnel, volunteers, and participants who made this programme a success. May this noble effort continue to flourish for the well-being of our beloved Kota Sentosa community,” Yap said.
The “Love Yourself, Love the Community” programme, organised under the Komuniti Sihat Pembina Negara (KOSPEN) initiative, featured health screenings, awareness talks, and activities aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles among residents.
