KUCHING, Mar 27: The federal government is giving out a one-off assistance of RM500 for e-hailing drivers which will involve an allocation of RM60 million.
The monetary benefit was unveiled by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin during a press conference.
“I am aware that the income of e-hailing drivers is affected during the period of movement control order (MCO).
“To reduce their financial burden, the federal government has decided to provide a one-off payment of RM500 to 120,000 e-hailing drivers with an allocation of RM60 million.
“In the previous economic stimulus package, the federal government has announced that taxi drivers will be given RM600 starting April 1,” he said during a press conference to unveil a comprehensive economic stimulus package at Putrajaya today.
On another note, he disclosed that the federal government had agreed to pay the salary for contract service workers affected by the MCO.
Muhyiddin observed that more than 80,000 contract workers from the cleaning services, delivery services in schools, public institution training centres and statutory bodies will receive the benefit.
He revealed that the assistance involved an allocation of RM110 million.
At the same time, Muhyiddin said the federal government will also extend the contract for the contract service workers for an additional month as trade off during the MCO period. —DayakDaily
