KUCHING, Jan 17: Kampung Sadir, Padawan welcomed strong visitor turnout during the third edition of its annual Pesta Makan Durian, featuring around 1,000 organically grown durians for on-site enjoyment.
Village head of Kampung Sadir, Bobyham William, said the event attracted more visitors this year compared to previous editions, reflecting the growing popularity of the festival.

“This year, approximately 1,000 durians were prepared for communal consumption.
“Visitors were able to taste the fruits straight from the hills where they are grown,” he said when met by reporters at the event here, today.
He highlighted that Kampung Sadir’s durians are 100 per cent organic, cultivated without fertilisers or pesticides, and sourced from the surrounding hills and mountains, giving the fruit its distinctive, natural flavour.
Harvesting the durians, Bobyham explained, requires effort as villagers walk about one and a half hours from the village to the foothills, often carrying up to 25 fruits at a time.
The festival, which commenced at 8am, attracted durian enthusiasts from across the state, eager to enjoy the unique, chemical-free fruits.
As a significant milestone, Kampung Sadir has also been officially recognised as a Kampung Taman Geo from Dec 22, 2025 until Dec 31, 2027, making it an important component of the Sarawak Delta Geopark and reinforcing its role in promoting culture, nature, and organic produce. — DayakDaily
