DUN gives nod to RM388 million in second supplementary budget for 2020

KUCHING, Nov 11: The Sarawak Legislative Assembly has passed a second supplementary 2020 Budget amounting to RM388.21 million.

The bill, Supplementary Supply (2020) Bill, 2020 was passed after it was read the second and the third time by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas who is also the Second Finance Minister at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) today.


“The additional expenditure is to meet the cost of various ministries and departments for which funds are not provided or insufficiently for in the 2020 estimate,” he said.

DUN Deputy Speaker Datuk Gerawat Gala explained that under Standing Orders 67(4) and 67(7) of the Sarawak Constitution, there shall be no amendment or debate allowed for the Supplementary Supply Bill 2020.

Thus, he said, the amount as set forth in the second supplementary estimate of expenditure is approved.

During a one-day sitting on May 11, the Sarawak Legislative Assembly passed two Supplementary Supply Bills involving a total of RM681.49 million for expenditures which were not stated in the 2020 state budget.

The bills were the Supplementary Supply (2019) Bill 2020 involving an amount of RM299.17 million and the Supplementary Supply Bill (2020) for RM382.32 million. — DayakDaily
