DUN celebrates 150th anniversary

KUCHING: Today marks the 150th anniversary of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN), which is the oldest state legislative assembly in Malaysia.

To commemorate the event, Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg launched the 150th anniversary logo at the DUN complex today.

The celebration will be held for a year starting from today. Various programmes such as a state dinner, ‘DUNS Bersama Rakyat’, an exhibition, the launching of the e-Hansard, publication of DUN’s 150th anniversary book, launching of an official song and a ‘Pentas Rakyat’ event will be held following a special DUN sitting in November.

Meanwhile, the 150th anniversary logo shows a graphic representation of the DUN building, whose architecture reflects the major ethnic groups of Sarawak.

As a unique and arguably the most beautiful parliamentary building in South East Asia, the DUN building also reflects change and continuity.

The golden pinnacle signifies the aspiration of the people of Sarawak for an open and transparent democracy and the execution of DUN’s legislative responsibilities towards development and economic prosperity.

The streak below the number zero suggests a friendly gesture as the DUN welcomes local and foreign guests who visit this iconic building.
