SIBU, March 17: The water board authority has been told to restore water supply to Sibu Jaya within 24 hours after yet another supply interruption.

Dudong assemblyman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing also urged the water board to immediately dispatch water trucks to the affected areas to provide water to alleviate the residents’ urgent needs before the completion of the new water project.

“The disastrous water shortage in Sibu Jaya has remained unresolved for many days, inconveniencing many households and making untold numbers of residents miserable currently,” he said today.

Commenting on the supply interruption, he said after close communication with the water supply board, it was learned that the damage was due to the overly close distance between the water pipe and the fuel tank of a petrol station nearby.

Tiong warned that if repairs are carried out rashly without careful study, the fuel tank might accidentally combust and explode.

In view of this, he wants the authorities to immediately adopt an ’emergency plan’ to build a new water pipe connecting to the Sibu Jaya area and to start construction immediately so that residents would have uninterrupted water supply. — DayakDaily
