KUCHING, Oct 22: Police discovered a drug-processing ‘laboratory’ and seized several types of drug substances, as well as drug paraphernalia, worth about RM55,000 in a raid on a condominium unit at Jalan Wan Alwi last night.
The success came about after police received a tip-off, which led to the arrest of a contractor, 48, and his wife, 44.
Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department head Supt Hasnir Abdul Hamid said a team of officers from the Sarawak police contingent raided the unit at 7.30pm.
“Upon the police introducing themselves, the woman immediately locked the entrance door, prompting the police to force it open. Once inside the unit, they discovered various chemicals and tools needed to manufacture illicit drugs.
“The contractor, who came to the unit later was also arrested. A urine test conducted on him showed positive for methamphetamine while his wife was tested negative. A Honda City car, worth RM10,000 was also seized,” Hasnir disclosed in a statement.
The couple are currently under remand for five days to facilitate investigation under Section 39B of the 1952 Dangerous Drugs Act which carries the mandatory death sentence if found guilty.
Police will also investigating further if there are other syndicate members working with them as the discovery could mean the possibility of other facilities existing in the state. ā DayakDaily
