Drug addict gets 7 months’ jail for assaulting 77yo father-in-law at Taman Desa Wira

KUCHING, April 4: A drug addict was sentenced to seven months in prison by the Magistrates’ Court today for assaulting his 77-year-old father-in-law by pushing him towards the main door of the house.

Junli Nosey, 51, pleaded guilty to charges under Section 323 of the Penal Code was read together with Section 326A of the same Code.

He was charged with committed the offense at their home in Taman Desa Wira, around 8.30pm on Feb 3 after he was reproached by his father-in-law for refusing to work and frequently asking for money from his wife.

Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan ordered the accused to serve the prison sentence effective today.

Based on the case facts, during the incident, the complainant who is the accused’s 46-year-old wife, had a verbal argument with her husband because she refused to give the accused RM50 that he had asked for.

The victim, who is the accused’s father-in-law and the accused’s brother-in-law reprimanded the accused, who often asked for money from the complainant and refused to work.

The accused became angry and tried to enter the house but was stopped by his brother-in-law, leading to a scuffle between them.

The father-in-law then attempted to break up the fight but was pushed by the accused towards the main door, causing his hand to be injured.

Upon seeing his father-in-law injured, the accused then fled from the house.

A report was lodged by the complainant for further action, which led to the arrest of the accused on Feb 5.

Investigations revealed that the accused had committed the offense, and medical reports confirmed that the victim suffered a wound on his right wrist as a result of the incident.

Meanwhile, in the same court, the accused was also fined RM2,000 or four months in prison for abusing drugs such as amphetamine and methamphetamine.

He was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.

Judge Mason also ordered the accused to be placed under police supervision for two years after serving the sentence or paying the fine.

The prosecution was handled by Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang, while the accused was unrepresented. — DayakDaily
