KUCHING, May 18: A man who worked as a driver for a secondary school at Jalan Matang was sentenced to four years in jail for molesting an underage girl.
Zolhaji Mohamad, 47, was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries an imprisonment term of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.
He pleaded guilty to the charge before Sessions Court Judge Maris Agan.
He allegedly groped the right breast of a 15-year-old female student in front of a house in Jalan Matang, Depo Link, at about 1.18pm on April 14, 2022.
During the mitigation plea, the accused told the Court that he has to take care of both his parents and three children, while he also suffers from hypertension, high cholesterol and diabetes.
It was reported that the accused stopped the girl as she was walking home from school. The accused, who was riding his motorcycle, suddenly stopped the victim and pretended to ask something.
The accused then suddenly groped the victim’s chest and sped away.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Aiman Mutallib Mohamad Shariff prosecuted, while the accused was unrepresented. — DayakDaily
