Drainage system behind Taman Awam Miri repaired, will resume operation once debris, dead fish cleared

Debris yet to be cleared from the drainage system.

KUCHING, Jan 14: The repair works to the collapsed drain wall behind Taman Awam Miri public toilet has recently been completed.

Miri City Council (MCC) said the drainage system will be fully operational after the Landscaping Division has cleared the debris and dead fish along the stretch of the drainage system.

The council also clarified that the starting point of the drainage system is not a fish pond, but a rainwater retention section.

“It serves to collect and retain a large volume of rainwater coming down from the hill slope and adjacent drainage system on higher ground during heavy downpours, before the drain water gradually flows down to the adjoining drainage (the man-made stream).

“The school of fish previously gathered at the retention section came from other connecting drains and hill slope,” it said in a statement today.

MCC added the drainage at that particular stretch is being designed in such a way so as to provide aesthetic value to the surrounding landscaping of the public hilly and rocky park. — Dayakdaily
