KUCHING, Sept 22: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen urges the federal government to declassify the current Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Special Cabinet Committee Report from under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) if the government is sincere in honouring its promises to the people of Sabah and Sarawak.

He noted an important clause in the recently signed bipartisan cooperation between the government and the opposition concerns MA63.

Dr Yii who is a member of Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) claimed that under the former Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, 17 out of 21 items under MA63 were agreed upon by all stakeholders including the governments of Sabah and Sarawak and the findings of the report was ready to be implemented.

However, he said the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government decided to put it under OSA.

“For me, this makes no sense as this involves our rights and is of huge public interest.

“That is why I urge the government, the first and easiest step they can take if they are sincere, is to remove that report from OSA.

“That actually can be done today itself or even tomorrow.

“I also demanded the report card from the Ministry of Sabah and Sarawak Affairs for the past one-and-a-half years.

“For them, it is not a matter of 100-days KPI (key performance indicators) but what they have done all this while,” he said in a statement.

As a Sarawakian, Dr Yii noted that the current Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Dato Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar is also a Sarawakian and he even said one of his 100-days KPI will be on MA63.

Hence, Dr Yii demanded transparency and action from the federal government to make sure Sarawak’s rights are restored and protected.

He added the federal government cannot use Covid-19 as an excuse not to do the necessary and it needs to ensure Sarawak’s rights are restored as soon as possible. — DayakDaily
