Dr Yii: Ramp up efforts to educate public on booster jabs

Dr Kelvin Yii

KUCHING, Nov 8: The government must ramp up efforts to increase awareness and educate members of the public on the importance and safety of the Covid-19 booster or third dose, especially in view of concerns raised when it comes to ‘mix and match’ or heterologous vaccination.

Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii said he raised the issue, which included a smooth and comprehensive rollout of the booster and third dose, today at Parliament.

“The government should also increase materials to educate and share the benefits of vaccination to the public to remove the high level of hesitancy,” said Dr Yii in a statement today.

He said the government must find alternatives to ensure that they will get the necessary protection as well.

“That is why a clear timeline must be set by the government on their plans to allow Sinovac as the third dose.”

On top of that, he raised concerns over MySejahtera’s recent hiccup which caused random users to be given HSO (Home Surveillance Order) and PUS (Person Under Surveillance) status.

He said such hiccups should not have happened as the whole country has been dependent on MySejahtera to go about their daily activities and manage their health status.

“A disruption like this is more than just an inconvenience, it can be costly. Imagine if someone suddenly can’t board their plane or cannot attend an important meeting just because of this,” said Dr Yii.

He also asked for the government’s plans on how they will address the issue of cybersecurity and data breach so that issues like this will not happen again. — DayakDaily
