KUCHING, April 6: Bandar Kuching Service Centre will be providing transportation for Bandar Kuching’s elderly and OKUs who lack the means to attend their Covid-19 vaccination appointment.

Members of the public who have registered for their vaccination will begin receiving their vaccination appointment notifications for the second phase of the NCIP starting yesterday (April 5).

Phase 2 of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NCIP) will start from April 19, 2021 onwards.

“It is important to note that a person who does not show up for their appointment will lead to wastage of the vaccine as once taken out, it cannot be returned to storage.

“In order to help the elderly and OKU individuals who do not have transportation meet their scheduled appointment time, our team is offering free transportation to help transport them to the location, accompany them throughout the process and then send them back,” said Dr Kelvin Yii in a press statement today.

Here are the stipulated processes:

  1. Notifications will be given to recipients of the Covid-19 vaccine 14 days before their appointment through their MySejahtera App or SMS, for those that registered manually or online.
  2. After being notified about their appointments, recipients will also be reminded twice about it via a SMS and a call.
  3. Recipients would still be given the opportunity to agree to their appointments or reject them.
  4. The first reminder will be sent three days before the appointment.
  5. A second reminder will be sent a day before.
  6. Once the individual has agreed to the appointment, attendance is compulsory because the vaccination process has been planned and to ensure that wastage of vaccine can be avoided.

“Our team is willing to assist to the best of our ability. However, due to limited resources and the need to adhere to necessary standard operating procedures, we are only able to assist a limited number of people at a time, on first come first serve basis.

“Therefore, those who really have no transport and genuinely need help, feel free to apply to our office. We will review all applications and try to help as many as we can,” said Dr Yii. — DayakDaily
