Dr Sim to take legal action over allegations of misappropriation of special food assistance funds

Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian

KUCHING, April 21: Batu Kawah assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian is instructing his lawyers to issue legal letters to all the parties who are involved in making what he terms highly defamatory accusations against him alleging misappropriation of special food assistance funds.

In a press statement today, Dr Sim who is also Local Government and Housing Minister asserted these parties have gone too far with their repeated and malicious attacks against him.

“I would like to refer to certain defamatory remarks recently made by the several DAP leaders in the papers including the ones by its Sarawak Chairman YB Chong Chieng Jen accusing me for wrongfully taking control of food assistance funds allocated for Padungan, Batu Lintang, Pending and Kota Sentosa in a total sum of RM800,000.

“Despite that it is an indisputable fact that all those food assistance fundings were allocated by the Sarawak Government to all Divisional Disaster Management Committees (DDMC) throughout Sarawak, and not to any ADUNs’ service centres, DAP leaders knowingly continued to make such false accusations and repeated the same against me through both social media and the local daily with malice or malicious intent to disparage my character and untruthfully accused me to have abused my position by misappropriating and misusing those funds.

“I had said earlier on several occasions that in view of the intensity of battling the Covid-19 pandemic at our own doorsteps, our top priority has to be focusing on beating the crisis by ensuring all our fellow Sarawakians that our home can one day be safe like before, free from the disease.

“As such, our healthcare and enforcement frontliners have to risk their lives every day to achieve the above goal. There is simply no room for any such untruthful politicking or any false accusations.

“The authors have gone overboard with their persistent, repeated and malicious attacks without basis and without verifying the facts beforehand.

“In the circumstances, I have instructed my lawyers to issue legal letters to all the parties concerned for making such highly defamatory accusations against me about the allocation of food assistance funds in Kuching,” Dr Sim disclosed via his statement. — DayakDaily
