When explaining the need for AEDs in schools, Wee said the rising number of sudden deaths at schools is increasingly concerning.

He said AEDs are standard equipment to be installed in many schools and campuses in countries abroad to respond to various emergencies and first aid situations.

“Although AEDs have not been popularised locally, we can now see that some public places such as airports, shopping malls, hotels and so on have begun to utilise AED equipment.

“It is a good phenomenon that Chung Hua Middle School No.1 can keep pace with the times in this regard,” he said when giving his speech at the event.

With high quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and emergency defibrillation with AEDs, Wee noted said patient survival can be improved, according to experts.

He thus urged Chung Hua Middle School No. 1 to promote the importance of CPR and AED first aid to all their staff and students to improve the level of emergency care on site. — DayakDaily
