Dr Sim: One third of Covid-19 cases yesterday comprised individuals less than 18-years-old

KUCHING, Aug 11: About one third of individuals infected with Covid-19 reported yesterday were less than 18-years-old.

According to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, 31 per cent or 260 people out of the 836 cases reported yesterday were those below the age of 18.


He added that 13.6 per cent or 114 individuals aged above 18-years-old who contracted coronavirus were not vaccinated.

“116 (13.8 per cent) (who have received) Dose 1. This group will be less as in Sarawak as we have almost 99.9 per cent follow up on Dose 2.

“346 (41.4 per cent) (who have received) Dose 2. Need to analyse further how many have been post-Day 14,” he said on a social media post yesterday.

Dr Sim who is also Minister for Local Government and Housing said there were 499 Covid-19 cases reported by the Kuching Division Health Office.

From this, 195 people were found to have received two doses of Covid-19 vaccines, 42 people have received one dose, 17 people were not vaccinated, 70 people were not eligible to be vaccinated and the status of 175 people have yet to be determined.

As for locations in Kuching with more than three Covid-19 cases reported yesterday, Dr Sim revealed they included Kampung Bintawa Ulu with 143 cases, Kampung Bunuk (69), Cluster Punau (50), Kampung Bintawa Tengah (28), Kampung Telaga Air (6), Lorong Cahaya Damai (5), Jalan Foochow (5), Kuching Family Park (4), Kampung Tupong Ulu (3), Kampung Semeriang Batu (3), Kampung Sebuak (3), Kampung Bintawa Hilir (3), Kampung Semarang (3), Taman Stapok (3) and Xin Siang Demak Laut Commercial Centre (3). — DayakDaily
