KUCHING, Feb 4: Local councils must take immediate action against contractors who failed to complete their projects according to the schedule, said Deputy Chief Minister Dato Sri Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Dr Sim, who is also Batu Kawah assemblyman, in a statement today, said any delay in government projects means that it is also against the will of the government and the people because any development promoted by the local council is to improve the facilities for the benefit of the local population.

“But some of the contractors never complete the project in time. We can’t accept this,” he said after inspecting the Lorong 14 Backyard Drainage System Project in RPR Batu Kawa.

The Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) president reiterated that he would continue monitoring and requesting councils to frequently report any ‘sick projects’ and irresponsible contractors to him.

“This will enable us to rectify the issue to complete a project according to the schedule, which will benefit the residents in the Batu Kawa area,” he said.

According to the schedule, the drainage system project in RPR Batu Kawa that costs RM500,000 should have been completed by 2021.

However, there is no progress on the project, and the delay has affected nearby residents.

Dr Sim has since instructed Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) deputy secretary Goh Thiam Ho to take immediate action against the contractor, and no more leniency is to be given to them. ― DayakDaily
