KUCHING, Oct 20: Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian launched the Deepavali light decoration at the Padungan cat statue here in conjunction with the coming Deepavali celebration, today.
The launch ceremony was also attended by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, together with president of the Sri Maha Mariamman temple Shankar Ram Asnani and his wife Karishma Shankar, and MBKS councilor Kho Teck Wan.
Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, Dr Sim said the election date announcement by the Election Commission (EC) today has resulted in a chaotic situation in West Malaysia.
He said Sarawak is peaceful and very blessed because the State is independent politically,
“It’s about who want to get married with whom, who doesn’t want to marry who, and who wants to take whose seats.
“We don’t care what everyone else is doing, that is their business,” he said.
Meanwhile, Wee said Sarawakians are united in diversity, and celebrate all festivals of all religions
He explained, with such practices, Sarawakians also understand each other better.
“That is what make us unique. So please, if we want to continue this type of harmony, you should know what to do (in 15th General Election),” he said.
Similarly, Shankar, who is also a senior lawyer, opined the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government is a progressive government for Sarawak.
“If you look at the opposition, what have they done? When they were in power, they made all sorts of promises which they couldn’t fulfill,” he said. — DayakDaily
