SIBU, Nov 4: Alice Lau’s performance as Lanang’s elected representative for the past 10 years has been questioned as only RM2 million worth of projects have been brought in.
Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) president Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, who brought the issue up, said this is the perfect opportunity for voters in Lanang and Sibu to reject the Opposition and prevent them from gaining a foothold in the two constituencies.
The deputy premier also said that Democratic Action Party (DAP), which the Sibu and Lanang incumbent MPs are under, has not fulfilled its promises during Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) 22 months in power, such as the recognition of the United Examination Certificate (UEC).
“DAP has been misleading the people for the past 10 years when they said they will recognise the UEC. What have they given Sarawak? Nothing — as they were bankrupt of ideas,” he added.
“We must win the two seats for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) come Nov 19. Jangan tengok saja (don’t just look and do nothing), but vote for our candidates,” he said at the coalition’s mobilisation night for the Lanang and Sibu seats last night (Nov 3).
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Michael Tiang questioned voters if they still wanted to be under the Opposition for another five years.
“For the past 10 years, she (Lau) was drawing RM1.8 million in salary but only RM2 million for projects. Do you want nothing for the next five years under the Opposition? Give us (GPS) five years for Lanang and Sibu. Let us show you how to make Sibu better,” Tiang urged voters in the two parliamentary constituencies.
At the ceremony, Dr Sim presented the two GPS candidates for the Lanang and Sibu seats: Wong Ching Yong (Lanang) and Clarence Ting (Sibu).
Both will be first-time contenders in the general election, whereas Lau and Oscar Ling, the incumbent MP and DAP’s candidate for Sibu, will be defending their seats. — DayakDaily
