KUCHING, Aug 31: With the Covid-19 Delta variant now endemic in the community, it is uncertain whether Sarawak would change its strategy in battling the virus.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said in view of the Delta variant becoming endemic, whereby the infection is consistently present within the population, West Malaysia and Sabah have now instructed that only those with symptoms would be swabbed.

“Like Singapore or the United Kingdom in the post-vaccination era, Sarawak will need to live with the virus and reopen its economic sectors slowly and safely.

“However, we still need to be on alert and not panic or misled by fake news; play our roles in non-pharmaceutical and public health measures to reduce community transmission so as not overwhelm the healthcare and hospital system,” he said in a Facebook post last night.

He further informed that Sarawak has done more than 20,000 PCR tests amounting to RM2 million in costs.
