Dr Rundi: Julau has pepper export, agrotourism potential

SARIKEI, Oct 3: Julau District has the potential to become an agrotourism destination rich in agricultural products, especially pepper.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Unit), Sarawak Food Industries, Commodities and Regional Development Minister Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom pointed out that the district is strategically located to be the main export network hub for pepper in marketing pepper-based products.

“If we take advantage of this, we can boost the socio-economic status of the local community to achieve the target to become a developed State with high-income by the year 2030,” he said when officiating at Julau Pepper Festival 2022 in Julau on Saturday (Oct 1).


He further said the Julau Pepper Festival is one of the best platforms to provide opportunities and space for farmers or pepper growers around the Julau district to deepen their business knowledge related to pepper products.

It also opens up opportunities for other speciality products in Julau such as Rojak Suntong and original woven handicrafts to be promoted.

Also present were Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin, Sarikei Resident Felicia Tan Ya Hua, Julau District Officer-cum-Julau Pepper Festival organising committee chairman Wee Teck Min, Temenggong Datuk Janggu Banyang, political secretary to the Sarawak Premier Brian Fong and Sarikei District Officer Katherine Lalai Eddie Saga. — DayakDaily
