KUCHING, Jan 11: A Sarawak PKR leader is urging Sarawakians voters to put aside doubts on the Opposition alliance’s prime minister candidate as changing the government is the main objective.
“Look beyond who is the PM and how old he is. Our aim is GE14; come together and vote and give Malaysia a change,” said PKR women national vice-president Voon Shiak Ni.
Speaking to reporters about voters’ doubt on nominating 93-year-old former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister if Pakatan Harapan wins GE14, Voon said the aim was to change the government.
“He (Mahathir) is the only one, the only chance, to secure the possibility of changing government.
“He (Mahthir) can penetrate the Malay heartland and he has confidence to win 20 to 30 seats.”
Voon also said the Opposition alliance in the last GE had the popular vote but still failed to win the elections due to gerrymandering of constituencies.
“We need more votes and to win more seats to change the government in coming GE14.”
Voon said those in the Opposition can only do their role to “check and balance” and could not overhaul the entire system unless Pakatan Harapan wins the election.
“We don’t want to be Opposition all the time. Politics is affecting all us like the fuel price and rising cost of living.
“It concerns everybody. Voters can help by coming together, regardless of who is the PM, vote so there is a change,” she said. — DayakDaily
