Dr Kelvin Yii is DAP’s candidate for Stampin seat

KUCHING, Jan 23: Dr Kelvin Yii is the official candidate representing Democratic Action Party (DAP) for Stampin parliamentary seat in the upcoming general election (GE14).

Yii, 32, will replace incumbent Julian Tan who has announced that he would not seek reelection.

State Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman and state DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen made the announcement today after many rumours and speculation on the candidacy and seat allocation.

The rumours are that DAP and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) might swap seats for Stampin and Miri, as well that Chong will contest in Stampin.

To dispel all rumours, Chong said he had to make the official announcement, but he said that there might be a change of candidate.

“In politics, everything is possible; there might be a change in candidate, but there is no change in seat (swapping of seats between PKR and DAP involving Miri and Stampin),” he told reporters after DAP’s Chinese New Year media luncheon today.

Also, Chong said Yii will face an uphill battle in Stampin as the once “safe” seat is now a “grey” area due to the gerrymandering of the Election Commission (SPR).

He pointed out that all the voters who are under Batu Lintang state constituency are now taken out of Stampin parliamentary constituency, and placed under Bandar Kuching parliamentary constituency and SPR is giving Barisan Nasional (BN) a fighting chance to win Stampin seat. — DayakDaily
