SIBU, June 15: The mobile vaccination center (mobile PPV) at Bawang Assan Community Hall here since June 12 had managed to vaccinate almost 2,000 local residents.

Coordinator for Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC), Dr Annuar Rapaee, during his visit to the venue recently reported that the Sibu outreach programme was running smoothly and realising the target to vaccinate the rural folk.

“The mobile PPV would be able to cover some 1,800 rural folk from 37 longhouses in Bawang Assan area within just four days.

“Almost half of the longhouse residents had turned up for the vaccination so far. Therefore, I am very happy because the response from the community here is very high,” he said in a video he uploaded on Facebook today.

Dr Annuar who is also the Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister further commended Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for the latter’s idea on “vaccinate first, register later”, pointing out that it was able to reduce “kerenah” or red tape.

“Can you imagine that we were able to cover 37 longhouses in just four days? The rural folk register for vaccination, injected with the Covid-19 vaccine and given the second dose appointment, all in the same place at the same time. Some of the vaccine recipients came to the mobile PPV by road and some even came by river transport.

“I believe the outreach programme is very important and suits the situation of Sarawak. Therefore, we will create more mobile PPVs so that the faster we achieve the herd immunity target, the faster we can return to enjoy the normal lives before Covid-19,” he added.

The Nangka assemblyman said after Bawang Assan, they will move to Durin to vaccinate the local residents in the area.

Next, it will involve locating a suitable location in Pasai to ensure that the epicenter of the previous Covid-19 outbreak area could be settled efficiently.

“I have requested the tuai rumahs of longhouses under the Nangka constituency to submit the namelists of those that are eligible for the second phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (Pick).

“I had also instructed the army to set up a mobile outreach programme so that we can cover the whole of Sibu Division,” he continued. — DayakDaily
