SIBU, June 30: There are some 50,000 residents in Sibu Division who are still undecided on whether or not to receive the vaccination against Covid-19.

Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee coordinator, Dr Annuar Rapaee in his Facebook live session today urged them to register through the MySejahtera app so that herd immunity can be achieved as soon as possible.

“According to records, there are 50,000 people who have yet to register as vaccine recipients. Some of them might have received the jab through mobile PPVs (vaccination centres). But for those who have not, I hope they will change their mind,” he said.

As for the 149,743 people who had been inoculated as of June 29, the Nangka assemblyman wanted them to use their experience to get those who are still undecided to receive the vaccine.

At the live session, he had also shown a video clip by ITV News who showed football fans in England without face masks and gathering in groups celebrating their national team’s recent victory over Germany during the Euro 2020 football tournament.

“Wembley Stadium was almost full, meaning after vaccination, they can go back to relatively normal lives. We feel jealous that they can live a normal life now. We hope our cases will drop and at the same time, more will want to receive the vaccine so that we can achieve herd immunity in August,” he said.

To a question from a viewer on vaccinations for those aged 18 and below, Dr Annuar said the main focus now was on those above that age group.

“I agree that those below 18-years-old should also be vaccinated and I will bring up the matter to the authorities so that they will be included under Phase 3 of the immunisation programme,” he stressed.

He also said those aged between 39 to 45 will probably receive their vaccination schedule soon.

On the request by some who prefer the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, he said it depends on the supply. — DayakDaily
