KUCHING, Feb 9: Former State Health director Prof Datu Dr Andrew Kiyu Dawie Usop, former Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Mohamad Taha Arif and Batang Lupar MP Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim were among Sarawakians in the 19 members appointed to sit on the Special Independent Committee on Emergency 2021.
The Prime Minister’s Office in a press statement today revealed the committee members include former Chief Justice Tun Ariffin Zakaria as chairman, former Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Samsudin Othman, former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Norian Mai and former Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin.
Three members of the opposition comprising Kulim Bandar Baru MP Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Seremban MP Anthony Loke Siew Fook and Kuala Selangor MP Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad are also on board.
Among healthcare experts appointed is surgeon Tan Sri Dr Yahya Awang.
Also included in the committee is Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) president Tan Sri Ter Leong Yap.
Cyberjaya University pro-chancellor Tan Sri Dr R. Palan, former deputy public prosecutor Datuk Sallehuddin Saidin, Perlis mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin and former Sabah state secretary Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman were also among those appointed.
Other politicians in the committee include Tanjung Karang MP Tan Sri Noh Omar, Beaufort MP Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun and Pasir Puteh MP Dr Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh.
The Prime Minister’s Office said the committee is established to advice the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on the continuation of the state of emergency and its expiry.
The Prime Minister’s Office added the National Security Council (MKN) and the Prime Minister’s Department will function as the secretariat for the committee. —DayakDaily
