SEBUYAU, Sept 17: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Patinggi Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has announced a RM10 million allocation for constructing a GiatMARA training institute in Sebuyau today.
Zahid, who is also the Federal Minister of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW), said he wished to assist the local folk, especially in training the youths for job employment.
“I have requested Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) Sarawak director (A Razu Abdul Razak) and GiatMARA Sarawak director (Abdul Halem Serojai) to monitor the project construction.
“I requested that the project be expedited and begin this year,” he said when speaking at a programme held here.
He also vowed to help bring up the proposed construction of a new building for SK Haji Bujang Sebangan to Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the finance minister.
Additionally, he noted that the dilapidated SMK Sebuyau has been identified as unsafe but is still operating as the only secondary school in the district to cater for nearly 1,000 local students and is now in dire need of reconstruction.
“I will bring this matter up to Education Minister (Fadhlina Sidek), insya-Allah, next Friday (Sept 22) during a federal Cabinet meeting.
“I will request that despite no budget status, the channelling of funds is still mandatory,” he added.
He further said with Sebuyau being elevated into a full district, he would forward the proposal to build a new district police headquarters (IPD) and a fire station in the area to Home Affairs Minister Senator Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Local Government Development Minister David Nga Kor Ming, respectively.
He had also suggested Sarawak’s Minister of Utility and Telecommunication-cum-Sebuyau assemblyman Datuk Julaihi Narawi to use new coconut seed ‘Matag’ in the plan to re-grow coconut trees along the coastal areas in Sebuyau.
At the same time, he openly requested the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (RISDA) to assist rubber smallholders throughout Sarawak.
Also present were Julaihi; Federal Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development and Kota Samarahan MP Datuk Rubiah Wang; Sarawak’s Deputy Minister of Energy and Environment Sustainability; and Batang Lupar MP Mohamad Shafizan Kepli. — DayakDaily
