KUCHING, Jan 21: Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof will look into the priority areas in coordinating the RM1 billion fund to upgrade border infrastructure in Sabah and Sarawak.

He said with Indonesia ramping up various constructions in Kalimantan for its new capital Nusantara, both Sabah and Sarawak must upgrade its infrastructure and security along the border.

“Sarawak has two main border points namely the Customs, Immigration, Quarantine and Security (CIQS) Biawak in Lundu and CIQS Ba’Kelalan in Lawas which we will upgrade.

“However, the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has voiced out the need to look into upgrading the CIQS Tebedu in Serian because Indonesia has done theirs so the road connecting Tebedu to Serian must also be upgraded.

“Therefore, as the person tasked with coordinating the physical development for Sabah and Sarawak, I will discuss with the Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi and Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“We will carry out coordination on the RM1 billion allocation and where is the priorities for Sabah and Sarawak for us to implement this year and onwards,” he told reporters after the presentation of contributions to the needy of Sungai Tengah Matang in conjunction with Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration at Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Hall at Jalan Sungai Tengah here today.
