KUCHING, Oct 28: Sarawakians will benefit from subsidised airline tickets when using boutique airline services owned by the Sarawak government, according to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
According to a news report from TV Sarawak (TVS) today, Fadillah said that the fares offered will be affordable for passengers.
“A lot of Sarawakians are working and studying outside of Sarawak including in Labuan, Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia. When we have our own (airline) company, then we can offer more reasonable fares subsidised by Sarawak government,” he said during the Bintulu Melanau Association dinner held at a local hotel in Bintulu on Friday (Oct 27).
Yesterday, Sarawak government through Hornbill Skyways Sdn Bhd signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) to facilitate the acquisition of shares in MASwings.
Meanwhile, commenting on the development of the proposed construction of railway connecting Sabah and Sarawak to Indonesia, Fadillah said the Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Hasbi Habibollah was given the responsibility to detail the study on the proposal.
He also clarified that there is no set time period for its implementation because it involves three countries and is a complex endeavor.
“However, our intention is to move towards that as soon as possible,” he added. — DayakDaily
