KUCHING, June 19: Tan Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar is fully qualified to be appointed as Dewan Negara Speaker, says Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof.
Fadillah said Wan Junaidi had proven himself previously as a Member of Parliament (MP) including as the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Parliament). He pointed out that in his last term, Wan Junaidi was very aggressive in getting the Federal Constitution amended to give effect to Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) to restore Sarawak and Sabah’s status as equal partners to Malaya in Malaysia.
“He is fully qualified and well experienced and he deserves to be appointed as Dewan Negara Speaker,” he told reporters when met after officiating at Agricommodity Dialogue Session 2023 at a local hotel, here today.
He added, Wan Junaidi however may not be able to be involved in any MA63 matter or process after assuming the position of Dewan Negara Speaker.
“As far as MA63 is concerned, I am the chairman for the technical committee and we are working towards it,” he added.
Earlier today, Wan Junaidi was sworn in as the new Dewan Negara Speaker in Kuala Lumpur. — DayakDaily
