KUCHING, Oct 16: A long-simmering quarrel over a borrowed scoop ended with a 33-year-old man, known to many as ‘Doraemon’, being sent to prison for two years after he wounded his uncle with a sickle.

The Sessions Court heard that the Kampung Bintawa man had borrowed the tool from his relative but never returned it, a matter that had festered between them for some time.

On October 7, at about 2.15pm, the 47-year-old victim was at his house in Kampung Bintawa Ulu when the accused arrived carrying a sickle and spoke to him. Without warning, the accused swung the blade at him, and the two grappled. The victim was left with a bleeding wound on his right rib area.

He was rushed to hospital, where doctors closed the wound with nine stitches, and he later lodged a police report.

Investigators found that the men had known each other since the victim was young and had lived as neighbours for years. Several witnesses were identified, including someone who recorded the incident through a window.

The accused pleaded guilty before Judge Shafiza Datuk Abdul Razak Tready to one charge of voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon under Section 324 of the Penal Code.

A check of his records showed nine past convictions: three for drug abuse, three for theft, and one each for gambling, mischief, and possession of scrap materials.
