KUCHING, March 13: Marudi assemblyman Datu Dr Penguang Manggil has rubbished allegations that he had neglected his constituents and development in the constituency.
The Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker, in a social media posting yesterday, claimed that he had served his constituency well, if development in the area and support among the people were anything to go by.
“I am not a cheap publicity seeker and I am very reluctant to engage in newspapers war or engaged in rhetoric’s, which do not bring any benefits to the rakyat and the state.
“To me it is an honour to be able to serve my constituency with full sincerity abiding by the principles of democracy and the rules and regulations that govern the very existence of Sarawak,” he said in a statement.
In light of the allegations, Dr Penguang advised aspiring candidates and political parties out to “unseat” him in Marudi to get their facts right and check with all relevant authorities such as the local council, district office, police and even the the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) before making baseless accusations to deceit the constituents.
“I am a straight forward man and my track record as a government officer for more than 36 years speaks for itself. It is also a testimony as to the kind of person I am,” Dr Penguang, who is also Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, said.
He reminded that Malaysia is a democratic country based on the westminster parliamentary system. Therefore, any individuals or political parties are free to contest either the parliamentary election or the state legislative assembly (DUN) election based on their own accord and free will.
“Any aspiring candidates have the right to express their views, be it in the electronic or print media. However, there must be some ground rules which must be observed.”
He believed that the people of Marudi understood what he has done and come the 12th Sarawak election due in 2021, the people are free to choose whoever they want to become their elected representative. — DayakDaily
