KUCHING, Oct 18: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan has warned that a Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) clean sweep in all 82 seats in the coming State election could pave the way for dictatorship.

He urged Sarawakians to ensure GPS faces a strong challenge, citing the ruling coalition’s incumbency and extensive resources as advantages over opposition parties.

“PBK intends to give a strong challenge to GPS in this upcoming election and cannot allow GPS a clean sweep in all 82 seats, else democracy will give rise to tyrant and dictatorship.

“GPS has the advantage of incumbency and the vast resources in their disposal. PBK will be fighting a giant,” he said in a press statement today.

The president also called for a change in government, citing unresolved issues over Sarawak’s oil and gas resources and the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Meanwhile, Voon appealed for financial and material assistance to help PBK candidates mount their election campaigns, saying they needed public support to challenge GPS.

He described PBK’s candidates as working-class Sarawakians seeking a more equitable distribution of wealth, particularly amid rising living costs and the concentration of economic power among a small group.

“PBK is not against such handouts but it’s because of increase costs of living and soaring prices of essential goods affecting mostly middle and lower income groups that caused many sons of Sarawak offering themselves to stand elections on PBK Ticket but they need fund and material support,” he explained. — DayakDaily
