KUCHING, May 8: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian today lashed out at State Pakatan Harapan chairman Chong Chieng Jen for twisting his statements contained in the Hansard.

“Don’t put words into my mouth. And I would like to urge our MPs to do something for Sarawak and deliver your promises and pledges otherwise the voices of the rakyat will tell you,” he said in reference to his winding-up speech yesterday.

Yesterday, Chong had accused Dr Sim of calling for a people’s referendum which was not in line with what Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had, on several occasions, stressed that Sarawak did not support any call for such a referendum.

“Dr Sim’s view clearly contradicts the decision of the state government. Is he going to go along with the state Cabinet or is he going to quit as a minister? You can’t make a statement that contradicts the state government’s position,” said Chong.

Dr Sim reiterated that he was merely urging the elected representatives to listen to the voices and aspirations of the people to deliver their promises. Otherwise, the voices for a referendum would get louder by the day.

Meanwhile, Dr Sim who is also Minister of Housing and Local Government urged Chong, who is also Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, to help reduce the people’s hardships over increasing prices of goods.

“As for us, the state government will help to make more affordable houses for the people,” he said. — DayakDaily
