KUCHING, Sept 17: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Stakan branch is reminding the people not to believe the promises made by Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak.
Its branch chairman Sim Kiang Chiok said DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen has twice defamed some of the state leaders and as a result, he said the words of the opposition leader should not be taken seriously by the people especially voters.
“In light of the recent news of YB Chong Chien Jen apologising for defamatory remarks made against Sarawak state legal advisor Datuk Seri JC Fong, SUPP Stakan reminds all that DAP cannot be taken for its words anymore.
“This apology makes it the second time the state DAP chief has had to apologies for potentially defamatory remarks made when he had to withdraw his statement against Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi (Tuanku Jaafar) who is also the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Co-operatives, and acknowledge that the Minister is a man of honour and integrity,” he said in a statement.
On September 11, Chong withdrew a statement and apologised to Fong over a defamatory statement he made in 2017.
It was reported that Chong had in August 2017 made offending remarks on Fong with regards to Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report during a court proceeding.
As a result, Fong filed a legal suit against Chong in December 2017.
Earlier in March this year, Chong had also reached a settlement with Wan Junaidi over an offending remarks which he branded the latter a “hypocrite” that he made at a press conference in March 2019.
Thus, Wan Junaidi had in April 2019 demanded Chong to withdraw the statement and publish an apology in newspapers of different languages within a certain period of time.
As Chong failed to do so, Wan Junaidi initiated a legal suit against Chong to clear his name. —DayakDaily
