KABONG, July 9: A divorce dispute between a young couple escalated when a 24-year-old woman was arrested at her home in Kampung Kabong yesterday (July 8) after allegedly attacking her husband with a pair of scissors and threatening to kill him and their child.
Saratok District Police chief Superintendent Mathew Manggie said the victim, a 28-year-old oil palm plantation worker, lodged a police report.
Initial investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute, with the wife repeatedly demanding a divorce.
However, the husband reportedly told her that the divorce would have to be carried out through the proper legal process in court.
“The woman then became aggressive and damaged several household items before grabbing a pair of clothing scissors measuring approximately 18 centimetres in length and charging at the victim.
“The victim managed to evade the attack but sustained a scratch on the left side of his waist after being struck by the tip of the scissors,” he said in a statement, as reported by TVS News today.
Mathew added that investigations found the suspect had allegedly sent several WhatsApp messages threatening to kill her husband and their child if he refused to divorce her.
The victim later sought treatment at Kabong Clinic, where a medical examination confirmed four marks on the left side of his waist, although there was no active bleeding.
The suspect tested negative for drugs, and police seized the scissors believed to have been used in the incident.
She has since been remanded to assist in investigations under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon and Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
